Do You Dare to Step on The Third Rail of Boomer Marketing? PDF Print E-mail

At Generation Bold we advocate supporting clients in every aspect of their lives in a non-intrusive way. It builds loyalty.

For example: Do you dare to help your clients or customers in the area of funeral planning?

Despite boomer denial, there were 2 million burials in the USA in 2008. Most boomers were left with the task of making choices for their parents at a time of stress, grief and family disarray.

Because of the experience, boomers want to prepare so this is easier for their children. But too often they procrastinate, avoid, and do very little.
If you want to help, you can:

•    Offer a lecture by a local funeral director at your location.
•    Send an article to clients that will get them thinking. I have written one especially for boomers, “How To Have A Kick Ass Funeral.” Use it any time you want. Visit www.LongevityClubOnLine.com Just scroll down to the middle of the home page and click on the title. Also at the upper right you can join the club, free, by entering your e-mail at “Connect to Adriane.”
•    You can also help clients by leading them to www.40/70talk.com, to take the quiz that will help them broach the subject to their older parents and make it easier on themselves. This is an especially good idea for lawyers, tax and financial professionals.

Bold Tips: Market Your Event for $1.00 PDF Print E-mail

Have you spent a fortune getting people to show up to local seminars only to get poor attendance. Next time consider a simple flyer tacked to the bulletin boards of local libraries, senior centers, shopping centers and supermarkets, if you seek the senior consumer in your area as your target attendees. You are probably thinking that the flyer won’t be seen among the other business cards and pitches for baby sitters and handymen. Not so if you pin a real dollar bill on the flyer. Eyes focus on money and people read what’s near it. Won’t they steal the dollar? Believe it or not, this rarely ever happens. But test your neighborhood. If it is stolen, put up another one. And if stolen again, write a letter to the editor of your local paper about the happening. In it mention your event. It’s the best $1 publicity you will ever get.

Bold Tips: Easy Press Release Ideas PDF Print E-mail

Use your client’s successes as a reason to reach out to the press. On line press releases are great ways to increase your search engine optimization and also generate press interest. But it may be hard for you to find materials for releases on a regular basis that are really news. Consider branching out with news about your clients and customers. The mention of your company in the release elevates your SEO, too, and you gain loyalty from clients that are thrilled that you had the pride to broadcast their successes.

If you are stumped at how to make your own press worthy news, here are some techniques we use for our clients:

Research awards in your field and nominate your company. If you win, that’s news.

If someone else nominates you, that’s also news.

Start a small foundation, all events are news, and policy advocacy is news.

Take a position on an issue and write a letter to the editor, the publication and the issue is news.

Piggy back on items already in the news, or make a comment publically, the speech is news.

(Generation Bold can design a yearlong press release generation program for you. We partner with some of the best PR firms in reaching the boomer/senior and age neat press.)

Bold Tips: Use a Senior Spokesperson PDF Print E-mail

If you do a phone campaign or need a moderator for a live panel, consider using a senior to make the calls, or the presentation. Too often, we overlook the power of the implied endorsement that an older person brings, if your target market is seniors. One client of our, Princeton Mortgage in Pennington, New Jersey, that places reverse mortgages hires an articulate senior to make cold calls, or invite attendees to seminars. When Generation Bold designed a series of seminars for them, called “Longevity University,” we used a senior to moderate the panel of experts. The good will is enormous. How to find great senior speakers? SCORE, RSVP and other volunteer organizations is a good resource to recommend upbeat seniors interested in becoming local spokespersons.
